LED Lights are for life, not just for Christmas

At this time of year, cities, towns and villages are lighting up their Christmas trees and street lights to add some Christmas cheer.  Children and friends will be putting up lights, trees and decorations to make this festive season extra special at home. All of the situations are different, but the one thing connecting them all together is that the Christmas lights are usually LED lights.

LED lights at Christmas have become essential due to their money and energy savings. Have you considered using LED lighting for your household lighting too?

This year’s Festival of Light at Longleat Forest uses 2 ½ miles of LED lights and Norwich’s Tunnel of Light has been made using 50,000 LEDs designed to echo the northern lights. Further south, London’s Regent Street has used 300,000 lights to create angels spanning the width of the street and Oxford Street has had 27 curtains made of 220,000 lights that turn into TV screens.

LED lights at Christmas have become essential due to their money and energy savings.

Lighting accounts for 15 per cent of a typical household’s electricity bill in the UK. According to the US Department of Energy, LED lights use up to 75% less energy and last 25 times longer than incandescent light bulbs. If the UK switches completely to LED lighting over the next few years, it will save on energy, reduce electricity consumption and decrease carbon emissions. However, even with the benefits now available from LED lights some people still only use them at Christmas.

TLW’s LED lights can last for up to 17 years providing lighting. Based on a lifespan of 17 years, if you installed LED lights into a new-born’s room, the lights would need to be changed just before they leave for university.

Other benefits of using LED lighting are that they use less heat, there are more ways to control them and they are more versatile and discreet. You can read more about the benefits of using LED lighting on the TLW blog.
